City & Guilds 2377-77 Level 3 In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment 

  
PAT testing takes time for equipment to be tested properly. Untrained PAT testers or those offering ultra cheap services have been found to duplicate results, not check fuses, overlook dangerous faults and issue labels even if equipment has not been tested.

A qualified, experienced PAT Tester can thoroughly test anything from 15 – 40 appliances per hour. This can also take longer for example if you need fuses replaced in every appliance, desks need crawling under, or furniture needs to be moved to get to plugs and sockets.

As such our rule of thumb for costing is as follows:

Costs

• Under 50 items £3 per item with a £15 minimum (5 mile radius or local dropoff) – While you wait service available. 
• 10 – 20 Items – £2.75 per item – however, if all items are simple, easy to access, and don’t require specialist testing… we may be able to give you a better price
• 50 – 100 items £2.50 per item – however, if all items are simple, easy to access, and don’t require specialist testing… we may be able to give you a better price
• Over 100 items – from £2 an item or by the hour (£65 an hour) and we will document and test as many items as we can in that time.
• 500-1000 items or more – £ Askforquote

Price Match – other services may be cheaper, and we may be able to price match. However, in our experience, It is not possible for us to undertake a thorough manual inspection, fuse check and testing in matter of seconds so we will look at this on a case by case basis. We care about your safety so take our time to ensure your appliance is fit for purpose, safe to use, thoroughly inspected and results logged. Plus of course, we have to write out all those sticky labels 🙂

All Item tests include:

• Visual Inspection
• Testing with a recommended PAT Testing Machine for Earth, Insulation
• Visual inspection of fuses
• Documentation of each item in an appliance log (sent as a PDF)
• PASS or FAIL labeling as appropriate
• Certificate of Inspection
  
• Photo catalogue of all items 

Public Liability

We take our PAT testing responsibilities seriously. As such, we have specialist PAT Testing public liability insurance with coverage of £1,000,000 

Fuses

We carry a supply of fuses so can replace standard fuses on electrical appliances such as toasters, washing machines, kettle, iron, dishwasher, printers etc if required upon inspection (3A, 5A, 13A) . A small charge may be applied for fuses replaced on site (with the exception of fixed fuse plugs)

Transport/Mileage

We may charge a mileage fee of £1 per mile to cover additional time and transport costs for callout inspections over 10 miles from our workshop in Stowmarket.

Alternatively you can make an appointment to drop off appliances at our workshop in Stowmarket where we can also offer an as you wait service (useful for customers that have just a few items. If items are heavy you do not need to bring them in as our equipment is mobile! 

Items we don’t test

Fixed Appliances that may need isolating or that need specialist equipment such as Hand Dryers, Cookers or fixed heavy duty industrial equipment. This may need specialist testing and repairs.
